![]() Creating Caring Community
What is the Sophia Foundation? The Sophia Foundation lives its vision of creating caring community by providing programs that are in alignment with the core values of the Sophia organization. Virginia Gilmore established the Sophia Foundation, as a supporting organization under the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, in 2001. Our Core Values The Sophia Foundation is guided by the values of: Transformation - Creative, systemic change that enhances the humanity of local and global communities Spirituality - Discovering the deeper meaning and possibilities of human action and interaction for positive change Wholeness - Experiencing all facets of ourselves, as human beings, in relationship with one another. Community Building - Commitment to support positive relationships that enhance the quality of life for all Compassion - Authentic communication that results in a deeper place of connection, caring and understanding Stewardship - The careful management of resources including financial, staff and environment Our History Sophia is the Greek word meaning wisdom. Wisdom is defined as experience and knowledge together with the power of applying them critically – working toward understanding what is right, true and lasting. The Sophia Foundation evolved from Virginia Gilmore’s personal life journey. She established the Foundation to support projects and organizations within the Fond du Lac area that nurture the sacredness of being human. She is committed to creating a more caring society; therefore a safer and more just world.
